Qantas and Virgin REFUSE to take part in Australia Day celebrations

Major airlines and Virgin Australia have refused to participate in celebrations.

Both air carriers failed to acknowledge the nation’s official day on their social media channels, and kampus terbaik di lampung left it in the hands of the air force and navy to draw eyes to the skies.

In previous years, Qantas sent an A380 over Harbour to mark January 26 and handed out iconic Tim-Tam biscuits to passengers at baggage carousels.

Virgin Australia has delighted past travellers after serving meat pies and lamingtons in its lounges, according to

It is understood increased levels of sensitivity around the contentious date is one reason why Australia Day was ignored.

Challenges stemming from the Covid pandemic were also said to be a factor.

It was a different story with the Royal Australian Air Force, who scheduled a handful of fly-pasts in the skies above NSW as well as a flying display over Sydney Harbour on Wednesday.

The defence force said they were ‘proud to participate in Australia Day 2022 events’.

‘Australia Day is held annually on January 26 to reflect on our nation’s past and celebrate the Australian spirit, mateship and sense of community,’ a statement read.

The Covid outbreak from the Omicron strain of the virus in December has created further headaches for the likes of Qantas, Virgin and Rex, with countless flight cancellations and reduced demand from passengers.

Qantas is tipped to experience a loss of close to $300 million when they deliver their half-year results for the 2022 financial year in February.

Daily Mail Australia approached Qantas for comment, with Virgin Australia confirming in a statement they would not be ‘acknowledging today’s public holiday on social media or in our (travel) lounges.’

Earlier this month,  relinquished its title as the world’s safest airline for the first time since 2013 due to Covid pilot losses and a ‘serious incident’.

Australia’s flagship airline had a sharp drop in Airline Ratings’ annual safest airline list down to seventh place, and was replaced at the top by Air .

The ratings website looks at a number of factors including the incident rate of airlines in the last two years, safety innovations, crashes in the last five years, and  safety protocols.

In 2018, an incident in Perth where a 737 crossed a runway into the path of another jet that was commencing takeoff proved crucial in their demise.

The report into that complex and serious incident was not issued until late 2020, and was too late to be included in the 2021 safety rankings.

Qantas was ranked the world’s safest airline from 2014 to 2017 as well as 2019 to 2021.

BAZ BAMIGBOYE: A perfect Paris match for the boss from hell

Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu has gained legions of fans thanks to her scene-stealing performance as Sylvie Grateau, Lily Collins’s ultra-cool boss in the much-talked about Netflix show, Emily In Paris.

Eagle-eyed Sylvie runs the office of luxury marketing company Savoir, where Emily has been transplanted from her home in the American Midwest.

The Parisienne clashes with Emily over her modern ideas, including using Instagram to promote her fashionista clients.

Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu has gained legions of fans thanks to her scene-stealing performance as Sylvie Grateau, Lily Collins’s ultra-cool boss in the much-talked about Netflix show, Emily In Paris

‘I think Sylvie’s afraid of Emily, but she also admires her boldness,’ the 57-year-old actress said from her home in lockdown Paris on Wednesday.

‘She was somebody who was bold herself when she was younger.

‘I think there’s also jealousy that has to do with seeing someone waltzing into her office. But eventually she’s sees Emily’s not making all the wrong choices.’

Leroy-Beaulieu also feels that Sylvie has an underlying warmth about her. ‘It was easy for me to relate to that,’ she said. But ‘underlying’ is the operative word.Concealing Sylvie’s soft centre is that ‘whole walking around being rude’ thing, and she conceded that bit of the performance ‘was kind of easier, because Parisians are like that’.

When I interviewed Darren Star, who created Emily In Paris (which is still available to stream, by the way) he described Sylvie as a ‘grade-A bitch’; but one who ‘looks fantastic’.Leroy-Beaulieu roared with laughter when I recounted that conversation. ‘I think she is a bitch! Who doesn’t love bitches?!’

She continued: ‘I know a lot of these women. Obviously, they have this enormous vulnerability, which they cannot show. And also a lot of these women had to sacrifice their family, or love, or whatever, so they could be really tough and powerful. They had to carry that pain around, but it can’t show … because they’re powerful!’

Warming to her theme, she added: ‘So they wear all these clothes and jewellery, and they walk in a certain way, just to hide their vulnerability.

‘People who are strong don’t need to shout about it.But Sylvie needs to put on a show.’

Leroy-Beaulieu grew up in an artistic household. Her father, Philippe Leroy, was an actor. Her mother, Francoise Laurent, ran her own line of fashion accessories — jewellery, knitwear and bags — for Marc Bohan, the creative force at Dior. The actress wore some of her mother’s gems in the show.

I told Philippine I detected echoes of golden-age stars such as Bette Davis and Joan Crawford in Philippine’s Sylvie; plus a nod and a wink to Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada.’Bette Davis was on my mind a lot,’ she agreed.

When I apologised for pts terbaik sumatera this line of discussion — a female boss’s outfits, or her psychology — when I’m unlikely to ask the same of a male actor, she put me at ease.

‘I’m not against the fact that a woman can be well dressed, and we can talk about it.It’s nice!

‘Being French, I’m happy that we have beautiful clothes, and beautiful fashion, and I think a woman’s body — when it’s well dressed — is beautiful to watch. I’m not offended. I’m not that kind of a feminist!’

She then gave me a tutorial on the secret of how French women manage to look so effortlessly chic. Not for me, dear reader! But for all of you.

‘It’s about a mixture of comfort and beauty. You can’t be beautiful if you’re not comfortable. Your face is going to look like you’re tired of wearing heels. It has to be a mixture of highly chic, but also super comfortable.’

Leroy-Beaulieu wouldn’t discuss her private life, except to tell me that she has a grown-up daughter who is an artist, but ‘not at all in showbusiness’.

‘That’s all I’m going to say,’ she declared.

Let’s hope we see more of Philippine, whenever it’s possible to film the second season of Emily In Paris, in the City of Lights.

The boys are back in town!

The Jersey Boys musical is working its way back into London, nearly four years after it closed at the Piccadilly Theatre.

‘We were ready to come back the day after we left,’ joked Michael David, co-founder of Broadway partnership the Dodgers, one of the show’s producers.

David, speaking from New York, said that Howard Panter and Rosemary Squires made him an offer he couldn’t refuse: the chance to open the newly reconfigured — and newly named — Trafalgar Theatre, with previews from April 14 (subject to Government guidelines). The hope is that the show will be able to perform with no social distancing, but strict safety procedures in place.

David said that a special clause had been written into the contract with the Trafalgar ensuring that the show will only open with full capacity seating. If social distancing restrictions are still in force in April, the Jersey Boys will wait until they’ve been lifted.

As with Broadway, David told me ‘we can’t pay our bills if we are socially distanced’.

The production features 20 or so people on stage, plus the same number backstage, and it should be a boost for freelancers onstage and backstage, who have not earned a penny since theatres shut back in March.

David said he hoped director Des McAnuff, choreographer Sergio Trujillo and other members of the original creative team will be able to travel from the U.S.for rehearsals.

Casting will start soon for the show, based on 1950s and 1960s heart-throbs Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, their music, and how one of their members had links to organised crime.

Songs include Working My Way Back To You, Fallen Angel and Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You (still love the way that number was used in The Deer Hunter).

6 Steps to Switch Your Team to a Online Project Management Software

Today even the well cohesive project team also needs ways to collaborate to deliver projects.

Interestingly there are more than sophisticated tools to collaborate. This is in contrast-to, especially when you are going through the pain of running a legacy system to drive projects and almost everyone hates using it. For productivity reasons, for competitive reasons, for cost purpose, companies are deliberating to switch to online project management software.

And obviously, people are resisting to switch to a new online project management and collaboration software system.

Should That Be A Painful Process?

It certainly used to be much painful process few years ago when businesses were implementing enterprise, legacy software.

However the new set of cloud based project management tools are easy to get started, adopt as well as stop. If you have evaluated project portfolio management software for your company, keeping in mind your company's current project management processes, people, culture and tools, then the transition will not be as painful as it used to be, in case of legacy software few years ago.

Even with loud based, highly flexible software system, it cannot be said that software transition is not painful. However, it can be made lesser painful with a well thought change management approach.

Let's take a look six steps approach to seamlessly switch your project team to online project management software.

It Is a Well defined, Articulated Transition Process Works

For your company, who will carry out software transition for you? Vendor, Partner? Think again. It is you. Also transitioning is not about organizing training, it is certainly not about people sitting through two hours session and learns about tool's interface or buttons or boxes. It is definitely more than that. It is about accepting the tool as an integral way of working together, as a cultural thing. It is about changing the mindset of colleagues.

Hence you will have to make it a point to articulate and define transition process, as you will decide to implement project portfolio management software. As an initiator of this change, you will have to take the responsibility and ownership. Write down real limitations, cultural issues, decide pragmatic steps to roll out software, identify quick wins, champions, and ways to address roadblocks.

Switching to Online Project Management Software: Treat it Like a Project and Track Performance

Introducing anything new to company is a big change (even if it is salary revision :-)) implementing new software has to be managed as a project. It needs thorough planning, setting up milestones, identification or right resources, identifying issues, addressing issues, identifying risks, managing risks, financial provisioning, etc.

Implementing new software system is not a trivial change which can be carried out as parallel activity or secondary activity. It requires focus, it requires people to spend time and have accountability.

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();

Identify Champions for This Transition Process

Like any normal project, you will have project sponsor, project owner, project team members, customers, etc.

For software implementation project, the role of change agents or champion is much more important. As a initiator you will have to identify dynamic evangelist who will vouch for new system, build confidence of other employees, share their feedback about adoption challenges.

Company that takes multi-disciplinary strategy to implement software with the help of champion and evangelist is more likely to succeed, more than single owner trying to push the software.

Don't Wait For The Best Time, Start With Right Time

They say “Timing is important”, absolutely true.

However there is no such thing as best time. It can only be realized in retrospect that, it was the best time. Hence you don't have to wait for the best time to implement new portfolio project management software. You don't need to do nationwide roll out at the same time.

Not everyone would be ready to accept it or start working on it. Some department or teams would be working on some critical assignment, pts terbaik sumatera in a fire fighting mode; you have given them time to come onboard. Hence it is critical to understand what is the right time for different teams to adopt/start using software.

Select Partner Who is Willing To Walk Together and Not Just a Vendor

Assuming that you have found project management software that works for your organization, has all the features you need, aligns with your current/future processes and workflow.

But that's not it. You should not look for a vendor that offers project management software product that has all bells and whistles. Implementing software requires more engagement from both. You should consider vendor who is your partner in this journey, who has travelled this road before, understand the typical problems, be ready whenever you have issues.

Take Incremental Approach and Don't Be Over Ambitious

It is recommended to take an incremental approach while implementing new software system. When I say incremental, I am not talking only about number of departments or number of people to be on-boarded.

Incremental implementation is about steadily opening up software capabilities as your company; people awareness of project management process matures. E.g. If your colleagues have never used risk management practices before, then introducing risk management right on the day one, will confuse them, overwhelm them.

It is better to take step-by-step approach.

Being practical and taking a dolphin training approach will definitely be helpful.

Protests, citizenship festivities mark contentious Australia Day…

Januari 26, 2022   Uncategorized   No comments

MELBOURNE, Jan 26 (Reuters) – Thousands rallied against the mistreatment of Indigenous people across Australia on Wednesday as citizenship ceremonies took place to mark the country’s national day intended to celebrate the birth of the modern Australia.

The Jan. 26 public holiday marks the date the British fleet sailed into Sydney Harbour in 1788 to start a penal colony, viewing the land as unoccupied despite encountering settlements.

But for many Indigenous Australians, who trace their lineage on the continent back 50,000 years, it is “Invasion Day”.

Many protesters at rallies across cities dressed in black to mourn the day, with some carrying the Aboriginal flag and “change the date” signs. Some protests were organised online amidst concerns of surging COVID-19 cases.

A monument depicting Captain James Cook, who arrived in the Pacific 252 years ago triggering British colonisation of the region, was doused in red paint overnight in Melbourne.

Speaking at the national flag-raising and citizenship ceremony in Australia’s capital, Canberra, Prime Minister Scott Morrison honoured the traditional custodians of the country.

“We recognise Indigenous peoples right across our land from the Torres Strait Islander people in the north, to the people in Tasmania, to the people across the Nullarbor in Perth and the Larrakia people in the Top End,” Morrison said.

“Like the country itself, Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are diverse, they’re unique and they connect us through time.”

PELANGI OUTBOUND LAMPUNG 081271994096: Mei 2015

While the Australian Day remains contentious, this week’s poll by the market research company Roy Morgan showed nearly two-thirds of Australians say that Jan. 26 should be considered “Australia Day”.The rest say it should be “Invasion Day.”

Australia’s 700,000 or so Indigenous people track near the bottom of its 25 million citizens in almost every economic and social indicator. Living often in remote communities, they also have been at greater risk from COVID.

Most of the 200 or so Aboriginal communities spread across Western Australia are closed to tourists and travellers.

Tech, climate change creating new inequalities, U.N. says

Januari 26, 2022   Uncategorized   No comments

By Ellen Wulfhorst

UNITED NATIONS, terbaik sumatera Dec 9 (Thomson Reuters Foundation) – A new generation of global inequalities fueled by climate change and technology could trigger violence and political instability if left unchecked, the United Nations warned on Monday.

Climate change and technology rather than wealth and income are the modern-day wedges that are increasingly dividing the haves from the have-nots, said the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in its 2019 Human Development Report.

These forms of inequality are rising as progress has been made in more traditional measures of inequality such as extreme poverty and disease, it said.

“Under the shadow of the climate crisis and sweeping technological change, inequalities in human development are taking new forms,” the report said.

“The climate crisis is already hitting the poorest hardest, while technological advances such as machine learning and artificial intelligence can leave behind entire groups of people, even countries.”

Allowing these new inequalities to grow could be “extremely dangerous and highly volatile,” said UNDP Administrator Achim Steiner.

“Across the rich and emerging countries and also developing countries where a middle class has emerged, their reactions are increasingly violent,” he told the Thomson Reuters Foundation ahead of the report’s release.

“If not managed well and practically, it will essentially manifest itself in what we see on the evening news – burning cars, burning buildings, burning infrastructure, millions of people in the streets protesting and overthrowing governments.”

Street protests have filled the news of late, in Hong Kong, Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, Chile, Bolivia, Venezuela and elsewhere over an array of issues including rising prices, government policies, corruption and pro-democracy movements.

The UNDP report said climate change will fuel inequality as it hits developing countries, many with limited capacity to resist threats from malnutrition, disease and heat stress.

“So the effects of climate change deepen existing social and economic fault lines,” it said.

As to technology’s effect on inequality, the report said the proportion of adults with university-level educations was growing more than six times faster in highly developed countries than in lower developed countries.

It also said fixed broadband subscriptions were growing 15 times faster in developed countries.

“These are the inequalities that will likely determine people’s ability to … function in a knowledge economy,” it said.

The changes come as many more people today no longer live in extreme poverty, Steiner said.

“Our aspirations have changed,” he said.”People are not just looking at the dollars in their account. They are looking at opportunities, at social mobility and at freedom of choice.”

Hong Kong university fences off Tiananmen statue on campus

Januari 26, 2022   Uncategorized   No comments

By Alun John and Edmond Ng

HONG KONG, Dec 23 (Reuters) – A leading Hong Kong university has fenced off a statue on its campus that for more than two decades has commemorated pro-democracy protesters killed during China’s Tiananmen Square crackdown in 1989, Reuters witnesses said.

Late on Wednesday night, security guards at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) fenced off the eight-meter high, two-tonne copper sculpture called the “Pillar of Shame” that commemorates those killed by Chinese authorities more than three decades ago.

The statue is one of the few remaining public memorials in the former British colony to remember the bloody crackdown that is a taboo topic in mainland China, where it cannot be publicly commemorated.

A crane and at least one shipping container was brought into the campus as construction workers milled around the area, according to two Reuters reporters on the scene just after midnight local time.Loud construction noise could be heard, they said.

Local media outlet Citizen News reported the university council had voted to demolish the Pillar of Shame.

Several months ago, the university had sent a legal letter to the custodians of the statue asking for pts Terbaik sumatera its removal.

Authorities have been clamping down in Hong Kong under a China-imposed national security law that is being used to suppress civil society, jail democracy campaigners and curb basic freedoms including free speech.
